In 2016, my wife Thai traveled to Vietnam to see her family. During her visit, her family decided to make repairs to her father’s grave that was eroding. They worked on the project for over three weeks. It was through this project that Thai became acquainted with the local villagers. They often came by to visit with her. Thai was deeply moved by the extreme poverty she saw. Touched by their suffering, she decided to help. Her intention was to make the people of the village feel loved. She purchased 40 – 22 lb bags of rice to distribute among the families, as a gesture of love.
After Thai returned to the United States, she shared her experiences with me. We were deeply saddened by the magnitude of poverty in Vietnam. Her generosity and compassion warmed my heart so much that I decided to find a way to continue her work. I wanted to do more. Her act of kindness gave me the idea of using food as a tool to reach out to these villages to share the Gospel. By giving them food for their bodies, and spiritual nourishment for their souls.
The result was Rice for Christ!
